SOT®: a chiropractic technique you might not know but should!

SOT blocks help low back pain and sciaticaSOT® blocks: they have been shown to change the function of the brain and, of course, relieve pain and so much more!
Did you know I am the only Certified Sacro Occipital Technic® SOT® practitioner in Pinellas county and only one of two in the greater Tampa area?

Some of the more well known parts of SOT® are wedged-shaped blocks. In my award-winning research, I showed that they actually changed activity in the brain both immediately after using them and then one week later after they were used.

SOT® blocks are placed under the pelvis in a variety of positions either with the patient laying face up or face down, depending on what is indicated by the patient's presentation. They are very effective with:
  • low back pain
  • sciatica
  • sacroiliac problems - including the hyper-mobile sacroiliac joint which is overlooked by the conventional views of the sacroiliac joint still held by many medical doctors, osteopaths, physical therapists and even some chiropractors.

The blocks are gentle. There is no cracking or crunching of the spine with blocks. Rather, the patient lays on the table and gravity along with the patient's breathing and the direction of the blocks brings the pelvis back into proper position. Tense muscle groups relax bringing muscle tension back into balance. But don't let their gentle nature fool you. The blocks can have profound effects.

Many patients tell me the blocks are their favorite part of the adjustment. I also get lots of positive feedback on Chriopractic Craniopathy work, which often occurs after I use the blocks.

Because the pelvis is the foundation of the spine and cranium, having a person laying on the blocks can alleviate problems such as:
  • shoulder pain
  • elbow pain
  • wrist pain
  • neck pain
  • pain between the shoulder blades
  • headaches
  • temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems (TMD)
Using the blocks can also help:
  • hip problems
  • knee problems
  • ankle problems
  • foot problems.

The effects of SOT® blocks go beyond simply pain relief, however. They influence cerebrospinal fluid flow, which is essential to a healthy and well-functioning brain and spinal cord. This is the topic of another blog post.

Hi. I would like to ask about SOT.
I watched few videos on SOT online and some of the things the practitioners do seem weird to say the least. Is this technique based on scientific research or just a philosophical approach to chiropractic work. In other words what is the mechanism of action when it comes to SOT?

Thanks for your inquiry about SOT. I don't know what videos you were watching so I can't comment on them. There is quite a bit of research presented and published. If you go to chiroindex.org and search for SOT you will find publications there. SOT is a system of analysis and depending on what you are doing based on findings there are different processes going on in the body depending on what correction is made.

Thank you. I've been to a couple of chiros who did standard chiro and SOT work but one also did muscle testing. Is muscle testing within the SOT technique something like applied kinesiology where the practitioner asks the body for answers(which BTW I consider to be problematic and very subjective) or is it just to check for muscle function and reflex points?

SOT and Applied Kinesiology are different techniques. SOT has neurological testing of the SI joint which could be misinterpreted as muscle testing in Applied Kinesiology. I don't know if the person you saw was doing that or something else. SOT also includes palpatory indicators, motion indicators, posture analysis, muscle function, and leg checks.
