Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy

Psychologists, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and other mental health professionals all know of the relationship between the mind and the body. A long day of stressful work will likely aggravate whatever your weak spot is. It could be something as simple as shoulder tension, a stiff neck, headache or back ache. Or it could be nausea, diarrhea, and fatigue. All of these things are influenced by the mind, but all of these things are manifestations in the body. Where does one start and the other end?

As a psychotherapist, I was always amazed at the relationship between psychotherapy and people's physical complaints as well as the relationship between people with physical complaints and their mental status. This was part of what led me to return to academia for my doctorate degree.

To help you, I have the experience and training to work from both the direction of the mind and the body. This distinguishes me from many of my contemporaries in both fields in which I am trained. Chiropractic education includes 2 basic introductory courses in psychology. I have a 2-year masters degree complete with 2 years of internships in addition to 12 years additional experience conducting psychotherapy for a large variety of conditions. That is tens of thousands of hours of experience. At one point, I calculated I had treated over 141 different mental health conditions; that number has since increased, but I have lost count.

Mental health professionals have very little training in the human body. Some go on to more advanced training and increase their knowledge (e.g., Neuropsychologists), but none have the educational or experiential equivalence of a Chiropractic Physician.
Mental health
For those seeking it, I can offer mental health services independent of any of my other services. I have 15 years experience as a psychotherapist. Some of the disorders I treat are:
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Anxiety Disorder (Generalized, Panic)
  • Major Depression
  • Dysthymia
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Conversion Disorders
  • Dissociative Identity Disorder
  • ADHD
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Autism

The above is not a full list. Please contact me if you have questions about what particular disorders I work with.

Research is showing that many of these disorders can be brain-based, meaning that  psychotherapy and Neurofeedback together is an intervention more likely to yield a desired outcome.

Help
Other people don't have a particular mental illness, but are seeking professional help to deal with life changes or achieving goals and personal growth. I can help you help yourself to do that. Often our physical problems can be a manifest of not being where we want to be in our lives.

All of my "mental health" skills can be provided separately or ideally in conjunction with the interventions I make as a holistic physician. This allows me to provide a level of health care unparalleled in the healthcare profession.
