All kids need chiropractic! This may seem like a bold statement until you understand why.
The process of being born puts a lot of stress on the spine and cranium. This was researrched and published by a group of Osteopaths. According to an article published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Associatin, under normal child birth, 99% of infants had “dysfunction of the cranial (head), cervical (neck), lumbar (low back) and sacral (pelvis) region.” They added that the longer the birth, the more likely this was to happen. C-sections and vacuum extractions are worse, with "the primary mechanism of injury to the spinal cord appears to be excessive traction applied to the spinal canal and cord during the birth process.”
But so what? Well trauma to these areas of the spine can have effects both immdiately and some that can manifest years down the road. Look at another study in the Journal of Manual Medicine. The article states: "Traumatization of the suboccipital structures inhibits functioning of the proprioceptive feedback loops. The motor development…cannot develop normally…the price of this is reduced capacity to absorb additional stress later. These children may show only minor symptoms in the first months of their life but later on at the age of 5 or 6 they suffer from headaches, postural problems or diffuse symptoms like sleep disorders, being unable to concentrate etc.”
One common outcome of this is plagiocephaly where there is a physical imbalance in the development of the bones in the head. Craniopaths and Cranial Osteopaths have been treating this for decades with medicine lagging behind putting helments on kids heads as a solution. I have treated cases of children with plagieocephaly and was able to achieve head symmetry without the use of a helmet.
I am a Certified Craniopath which is a highly specilized study and understanding of the cranium (bones in the head) and how they should function from birth and throughout life. This is a certification help by a little over a hundred people in the world.
Every newborn should have a cranial exam.
